Ontario Surplus

Well, they've done it. With over a year until elections, the Ontario Government has a surplus. Not a big one (300M), but pretty good coming back from 5.5B in the hole to start off.

You watch, the Tory - Tories will play up the "over taxed" citizens while it was his government under Harris and Flaherty as finance minister that lowered taxes on "borrowed money" if you can believe, leaving the big debt and hiding it.

Now, we have Flaherty as our Federal finance minister - oh, oh.

Interesting, when Ralph Klein cleaned up Alberta's debts he was a hero although the poor there are poorer, hospitals closed down and on and on.

BUT - now that McGuinty has cleaned up Harris government debts he will be attacked.

Usual Conservative "double-standard".

Usual Conservatives leaving debts.

Ralph Kelin didn't per se clean up Albert's debt, they passed the cost of governance onto its citizens in the form of NO infrastructure ungrading and saddling the people with insane health premiums. Not to mention the fewest hospitals per capita than any other province. Little money towards environment (but cheques sent to everyone). Ballooning drug abuse and spousal abuse is occuring because of the focus on fiscal conservatism and absolutely no regard for the social aspect of Albertan lives.

I wouldn't say that he slayed the debt of Alberta but more like it "solved" itself like the fiscal imabalance is supposed to be doing. The conservative way of fixing debt is much like the college student who spent his weeks allowance on monday. Starve until you get more money.
