Iggy keeps making news

As I said previously, I don't think Ignatieff is the right guy to lead the Liberal party. And this week he's shown it again.

First off, his "not running" fiasco. Yes, he did correct himself, but a leader shouldn't have to do that. Second, his "civil war" fiasco.

Now, I haven't followed as closely the last few days, and there probably isn't much actually wrong with hypothesizing nor what he said about Quebec, since it is probably true.

The real problem is that they were the wrong thing to say. As Brison stated, he is an amateur in this. Like when he was speaking to the youth at LPC(O), he started one of his responces with "there are a few words I don't like: Youth, Multicultural, Senior." I cringed when I heard that. He did go on for the next 5 minutes to explain it away (something about labelling). And I think within the party, he can explain away his views like that.

But when you're in an election campaign, they steal your few soundbites and you don't get the chance to reply. You can't keep issuing "clarifications" or "retractions" to everything you say.

Honestly, if he'd had a few more years in government, or a term in a cabinet post, he would probably be one of if not my favourite candidate. He would be a real threat to anyone running against him due to his great intelligence and charisma. But he's just missing that political experience to not be able to avoid those gaffes. He may be able to learn enough in the leadership race to not screw up in an election campaign, but it's hard to say.

This is just so out of context and out of control by Liberals bashing Liberals.

Civil war - it's not like he meant and out and out combat.

Tension - you betcha. Canadians can't be so naive that they don't think there can be serious tension in Canada can they? Oh please, I hope not.

Andre Bosclair is obsessed with separation and face it, the man is a loose canon.

Not a bad idea to try to be prepared.

This cherry picking of Ignatieff's every breath is very very tiresome.

How about some issues folks?

It was never reported anywhere, but at a private Ontario Liberal event, Iggy said "the world doesn't need more Canada".

The guy would be Stockwell Day redux if he won.

Well, well, well, journalist are now saying Ignatieff was CORRECT about the Quebec issue.

Sometimes it pays to wait before jumping to conclusions.

Sick and sad that some bloggers are only blogging to attack rather that some intelligent discussion.

Again, nothing against the point that Ignatieff was trying to make. The main "attack" points are that he just needs a bit more time in politics to learn what is right to say when.

Like yes, people may say that he was right in this regard, but the retraction/correction rarely gets the news that the original statement did. Brison and Kennedy both commented on this briefly on Question Period (http://tinyurl.com/f8cdb), and it had nothing to do with the content of the message. Ignatieff still needs a bit more practice in politics learning to pick his words a bit more carefully, since he won't always have lots of time to explain his thoughts fully as leader.

Of course Brison and Kennedy said that in Question Period - they want to make it appear that only their experience would benefit the Party - duh!

Cherry picking his comments? Read some of Iggy's NY Times articles--very scary stuff. The guy is the exact opposite of what the liberal party is all about (or at least what it used to be about). Which in my opinion is taking moral and principled stances on world affairs. Iraqis are living in misery daily because of the U.S invasion--an invasion which was possible because of intellectual appologists for Bush and Rumsfield like Mr. Iggy. Something very fishy and frightening is going on in Canadian politics that this man is suddenly so popular? Some kind of crookedness--Even though he spent his entire life outside of Canada and refers to himself as american (big surprise he supports their imperialist neo-con agenda)-he may still become our leader? Excuse me I think I need to go vomit, first Harper wins and now a guy who supports torture, scoffs at massaceres (calling them inevitable)and rationalizes occupation and invasion for resources--barff, I'm very sad to be canadian, I thought we were more intelligent than americans. I dont care if he was a professor at Oxford, he is American as Goerge W. Bush.
